My name is Huza Ramona and I am a breeder of shaded silver and chinchilla Persian cats.
Through this article, I want to say a few words—yes, to you, the person who sends an email or a quick message just to ask for the price. To those who call and, after hearing the price, are surprised and say: “I can buy a cheaper kitten elsewhere.”
I’m also talking to you—the one who doesn’t care about paperwork or pedigree, shows or breeding—because you “just want a purebred cat to keep at home and spoil.” No cat is “just a pet.”
Behind every purebred kitten, there is a BREEDER. I’m using capital letters to distinguish a true breeder from a kitten factory or BYB (Backyard Breeder).
A reputable breeder will not breed or sell unregistered cats, as that doesn’t protect the integrity of the breed. The registration (pedigree) is a documented lineage that helps track any health issues in the bloodline.
When you tell a breeder you don’t care about papers, that the cat doesn’t need to be registered, what you’re actually saying is that you don’t care about the kitten’s health. That you just want the cheapest kitten you can find.
When you buy a kitten from a reputable, quality breeder, that breeder feels responsible for the health of every kitten. This breeder gives up vacations, loses sleep, and most of their personal space at home is turned into cat space.
A truly passionate breeder, who loves the breed, pours their heart and soul into it. Not just when it comes to kittens for sale, but with every kitten buyer—who now carries a piece of the breeder’s heart and becomes a member of their extended family.
Breeders care about their kittens even after they leave their home, and they will take them back without hesitation or help find a good home if needed. They’re there to answer questions—even when they can’t fix everything, they’re there for support and comfort.
A breeder will “get their hands dirty,” often burdened with everything that a birth involves. Because that’s life… in the midst of birth and death, life goes on.
The wheel keeps turning, even after great losses.
A breeder does tests, x-rays, lab work, emergency surgeries, vaccinations, buys food, vitamins, and litter in bulk, registers the kittens so they receive their pedigrees, and ensures they are microchipped.
And finally, it is the breeder who chooses the families lucky enough to buy one of their kittens.
Yes, you read that right. A real breeder chooses who gets to buy a kitten from them, because breeders don’t really make money from selling.
There is no amount of money that can compensate for the investments a breeder makes. They work to match the right kitten with the right family. A breeder says “no” more often than “yes.”
A good breeder has clear criteria for those who want to breed from their lines. Why?
Because breeding is a responsibility that should never be taken lightly. Breeding is a lifestyle choice reserved ONLY for the few who are dedicated and willing to make sacrifices.
Because a kitten is not just a pet!
It is the breeder’s legacy, a little boy or girl’s best friend, a child’s guardian, therapy for the elderly or those in need, a family member, and someone’s whole world!!!
